Sunny the capybara loves games with Tilly the sea turtle — until he loses. His face goes hot, the board goes flying, and the afternoon seems ruined. But saying 'good game' and having one more go turns out to feel even better than winning.
Knock knock! Tilly the sea turtle tumbled in, shaking rain off her shell. 'Did somebody say game?' she grinned.

They plopped onto the cushions. Orange piece for Sunny, green piece for Tilly. Sunny rattled the dice. 'Ready, steady... roll!'

Roll, hop, slide! Round and round the path they raced. Sunny zoomed ahead. Tilly got stuck on the mud square. Sunny grinned so wide his cheeks hurt.

Then Tilly rolled a six. And another six. Hop, hop, hop — past the bridge, past the ladder, past Sunny! 'One more square and I win,' she sang.

Sunny rolled. A one. A tiny, no-good one. Tilly rolled... and hopped her green piece onto the last square. 'I win!' she cheered.

Sunny's face went hot. His ears went hot. His paws went hot. And before he could stop them — WHOOSH — his paws flipped the whole board into the air!

Pieces bounced under the chair. Dice rolled under the rug. Tilly's smile slid right off her face. The room went very, very quiet.

Sunny's tummy felt twisty. He slipped out the front door and sat on the porch step. The rain had slowed to a stop, and the sky was turning soft and sleepy blue. He sat all alone with the drips and the drops.

The door creaked. Tilly came out with a glass of cool water and sat down beside him. For a little while, they just listened to the drips and the drops. Then Tilly said, 'I don't like losing either. It makes me feel all hot and scrunchy inside.'

Sunny sipped. He breathed in... and out. The hot feeling shrank down to a small warm pebble. 'Sorry about the board,' he said. 'Shall we pick up the pieces together?'

Back inside, they crawled under the chair and under the rug. One dice! Two dice! Orange piece, green piece! Sunny set the board straight and took a deep breath. 'Good game, Tilly. Really.'

'One more go?' asked Tilly. 'One more go!' said Sunny. Roll, hop, slide! This time Sunny laughed when he landed in the mud. This time, losing didn't sting so much.

Who won the second game? Sunny can't remember. He remembers the rug under his knees, Tilly close on the other cushion, and the dice going click-click. When the last piece reached the end, Sunny said, 'good game.' His hot face felt cool. One more go was the best part.
